  1.  (Paint.)  A  thin,  oval  or  square  board,  or  tablet,  with  a 
  thumb  hole  at  one  end  for  holding  it  on  which  a  painter 
  lays  and  mixes  his  pigments.  [Written  also  {pallet}.]
