  1.  Of  pertaining  to  or  resembling,  mucus;  slimy,  ropy,  or 
  stringy,  and  lubricous;  as  a  mucous  substance. 
 
  2.  Secreting  a  slimy  or  mucigenous  substance;  as  the  mucous 
  membrane.
