  (Chem.) 
  The  coloring  principle  of  logwood.  It  is  obtained  as  a  yellow 
  crystalline  substance,  {C16H14O6},  with  a  sweetish  taste. 
  Formerly  called  also  {hematin}.

  hemoglobin  or  oxyhemoglobin  gives  to  the  blood  its  red
